Victim identified in Lynn hit-and-run as Emira Barucija
LYNN - Police have identified the person who was hit and killed by a driver who allegedly took off while she crossed the street in Lynn early Wednesday morning.
The woman has been identified as 55-year-old Emira Barucija of Lynn.
Redzo Barucija is trying to comprehend the sudden loss of his wife who was struck on Western Avenue as she headed to take the bus to her job at Salem Hospital.
"Everything suddenly changed and I'm in a different position," said Redzo Barucija. "When this happened, a lot of things are out of your mind. Just a sadness, you feel something very tough."
Police say the driver never stopped. They say he drove all the way to work in Boston with damage clearly visible on his car, never contacting police.
"It didn't appear that there was damage that would hinder the vehicle from operating, but there was certainly damage to the body of the vehicle," said Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec.
The car was later found in a Boston parking garage and the driver located, which police say is thanks to good information they were able to get at the scene.
"We have cameras that can capture license plates and that combined with witness information was extremely helpful and pivotal in obviously identifying the vehicle and the operator in a short time frame," Lt. Kmiec said.
Police say the driver has been cooperative and will likely face charges once the investigation is complete.
