Man Critically Hurt In Lynn Hit-And-Run
LYNN (CBS) - Massachusetts State Police are looking for the driver who hit and critically injured a man in Lynn overnight.
The man was walking in the 330 block of the Lynnway near Lynn Auto Sales just before 11:30 p.m. Monday when he was struck by an SUV. Investigators say it was heading northbound when it hit the man, knocking him onto the southbound side of the road. The SUV was last seen heading down Market Street.
The driver didn't stop, police said, and the man was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. They did not release his name, only saying he's 55 years old and from Lynn.
State Police shut down part of the Lynnway after the crash. Clothes, a shoe and debris were scattered across the road.
Richard Aswad, owner of Lynn Auto Sales, said his surveillance cameras show police responding to the terrible scene.
"You have to pay attention on this road, you have to, whether you're walking or driving you, gotta pay attention," he told WBZ-TV. "Anyone who hits someone and keeps going, that's awful."
In a statement late Tuesday morning, State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said they are looking for "possibly a dark colored SUV, possibly blue or black and which may have front end damage."
Anyone with information should call State Police at 781-284-0038.
