Lynn Ferry Service Discontinued
LYNN (CBS) -- Lynn ferry service has been cancelled after the state rejected the City of Lynn's request for $700,000 to run the service this Summer.
Officials in Lynn were told at the Metropolitan Beaches Commission meeting last week that they missed a key deadline, and that's why their request for money was denied.

Margaret Burke of Marblehead said she took the ferry, which was operated by Boston Harbor Cruises, into Boston for the last two Summers. She had the same reaction of many across the North Shore after word of the denial came down.
"We're shocked that they aren't running it from Lynn," said Burke.
Commuter Andrew Bettinelli of Marblehead is sitting in a car on the Lynnway these days since ferry service has been cancelled. He said learning the ferry would be gone was a disappointment.
"It was a great alternative to getting into the city rather than sitting in traffic," said Bettinelli. "I got to sit outside and enjoy the ride in through the harbor."
Burke said that ferry cut her commute from Marblehead to Boston down from two hours to a half hour.
"It's been an incredible experience," said Burke. "It's been economical, I've met some wonderful people on the ferry."
Some of those people started a Facebook page, Friends of Lynn Ferry, where the chatter is now about how to convince the state to support the service.
