Man Charged With Attempted Kidnapping At Lynn Laundromat
LYNN (CBS) – A man was arrested after police say he tried to kidnap a 1-year-old girl at a Lynn laundromat.
Lynn Police say the suspect grabbed the girl and had her in his arms when the mother and others stopped him from leaving.
It happened around 11 Tuesday morning at the Showcase Laundromat on Washington Street.
A witness told police it was very busy and the girl was sitting at one of the tables. He told police 24-year-old Precious Chigbue was acting strange and caught his attention.
When Chigbue tried to walk out with the child, the witness told the mother and she and other people grabbed the child from Chigbue and called police. From there, police sent out a description of him and it turns out the suspect didn't make it very far at all.
"An officer who was working a detail at the Stop and Shop heard the BOLO and then noticed the suspect inside of Stop and Shop at the time and stopped the suspect as he exited Stop and Shop," said Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec.
Police say Chigbue has no record and it appears the incident was random. He has been charged with kidnapping and will be arraigned on Wednesday.
