One Dead, One Injured In Lowell Shooting

LOWELL (CBS) – Police and homicide detectives swarmed a neighborhood in Lowell, trying to solve a murder, the end result of a double shooting.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday at O'Connell and Fay streets.

Anthony Luna, 24, of Lowell died right in front of Godfrey Kiiru's door.

"We came and stood at the door. We saw the victim, one of the victims there... they were doing CPR. He did not survive so that one passed," Kiiru told WBZ-TV.

A second man suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released.

By Saturday night there was still no arrest, leaving people in the neighborhood on edge.

"The K-9 was down here. They had the dog out for a while. I don't know if they're still looking for the person," said Bryant Euler. "I know that they said they're not saying anything on it right now. We live in the neighborhood so we would want some information on what's going on."

People say they heard three gunshots around 4:30 a.m.

With a young life suddenly taken, neighbors are looking for answers.

"You can't do anything about it," said Edwin Mieses. "You know what I'm saying, it's like, violence is always gonna be around you. You gotta just keep going with your day. You can try your hardest to stop it but you know, there's gonna be people like that in this world."
