Lowell Man Accused Of Killing Dominican Republic Police Officer Arrested After Pursuit
LOWELL (CBS) -- A Lowell man accused of murdering a Dominican Republic police officer has been apprehended following a multi-city pursuit Sunday afternoon.
Officers were conducting surveillance on an alleged drug dealer in the area of Back Central Street around 2 p.m., according to a press statement.
Police say the man had an ICE detainer as an illegal re-entry with an Interpol detainer for the murder of a Dominican Republic police officer.
The man's vehicle was spotted by detectives at Central Plaza on Church Street, and when they approached he nearly struck them before speeding away onto Lawrence Street, police say.
The pursuit went onto Route 110 in Dracut, police say, and officers were able to block the man's vehicle in and take him into custody at gunpoint.
Investigators say the man, 59-year-old Ramon Aguasviva-Mejia of Lawrence, was in possession of crack cocaine.
He has been charged with failing to stop for a police officer, unlawful possession of a Class B drug, operating to endanger, operating without a license and speeding.
Aguasviva-Mejia allegedly had 17 aliases and outstanding warrants out of Suffolk Superior, investigators said. He also had a warrant for felony assault out of Quincy District Court.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Tuesday.
