Lingzi Lu's Family Thanks Boston In Open Letter

BOSTON (CBS) – For the first time, the parents of marathon bombing victim Lingzi Lu are publicly expressing their thoughts over the loss of their daughter.

In an open letter in the Boston Globe, the Lu family said "she was the light of our lives" and thanked the city for the support during the trial.

"Throughout the trial, we had to relive the horrific details and images of that day, mixed with the displays of cynicism, hatred, and intolerance," the letter read.

However, they said the "unending river of love and kindness from the Boston community" helped them over the past two years.

"We are humbled and forever grateful for your continued generosity, support, and encouragement," they wrote.

They say Lingzi, who was a Boston University grad student, was positively affected by the people and experiences she had in the city.

"You mattered to her and she loved you all for helping make her dream come true," they wrote.
