Life In Prison For Woman Found Guilty Of Murdering Pregnant Friend, Stealing Unborn Baby

WORCESTER, Mass. (CBS/AP) — The woman found guilty of murder in the death of her pregnant friend and stealing her unborn baby will spend the rest of her life in prison.

A jury last week found Julie Corey guilty of first-degree murder in the July 2009 killing of 23-year-old Darlene Haynes. Haynes' body was discovered in her apartment and investigators later discovered her unborn child was missing.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope reports

Corey was sentenced on Tuesday to the mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.

Corey's lawyers argued that police failed to follow up on leads that could have implicated other potential suspects in the killing, including Haynes' ex-boyfriend.

Defense lawyers say it's too early to discuss an appeal.
