AG Healey Speaks At Boston Common LGBTQ Rights Rally

BOSTON (CBS) -- A day after Boston's annual Pride Parade, a group gathered on Boston Common for a rally for LGBTQ rights.

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey told them that the huge crowd that attended yesterday's festivities should send a strong message to President Donald Trump about what really makes America great again, and what real US values are.

"This is about respect, this is about equality, it is about integrity, it is about dignity," she told the crowd. "And all of us are in this together to fight to make sure that happens."

Healey says the best way to handle bullies is to deal with them head on--and she said she's committed to doing that both as the Attorney General and a member of the LGBTQ community.

"We're going to end the disproportionate rates of bullying, homelessness, suicide, and of all sorts of unnecessary trauma and violence that for far too long has gone on against members of our community," Healey said.

City Councilor Ayanna Pressley also urged the crowd to fight for their rights under the Trump administration.

"Every day, we're awaking to a new threat against our civil rights, our democracy, our humanity, our very planet," she said. "And you might be worried. But I'm challenging you--don't worry, work."
