Kris Dunn Denies Rumors He Doesn't Want To Be Drafted By Celtics

BOSTON (CBS) -- It's been rumored that Kris Dunn doesn't want to be drafted by the Boston Celtics.

But the Providence star said those rumors couldn't be further from the truth.

"I mean it would be unbelievable to be selected by the Celtics," Dunn told The Boston Globe's Adam Himmselbach on Thursday. "My dream is just to get drafted, and that I have a chance to be a top-five player, it's a blessing."

Those nasty rumors claimed Dunn didn't want to be drafted by the C's or the Phoenix Suns (the owners of the No. 3 and No. 4 pick in next week's draft, respectively) because both teams are pretty set at guard on their depth charts.

"I think that's just a rumor going around," Dunn said. "That never came out of my mouth, that I didn't want to play for any team."

The New London, Connecticut native wouldn't mind being drafted by Boston, giving his family and friends a chance to see him play in person on a nightly basis. He also said he's impressed with what the Celtics have been able to do the last few seasons, and doesn't sound at all worried about their crowded backcourt.

"They have great players," said Dunn, who was named the Big East's Player of the Year for a second straight year after averaging 16.4 points, 6.2 assists and 5.3 rebounds for the Friars in 2015-16 . "You definitely can tell they're defense-oriented. I don't know Marcus Smart that well, but I played with Marcus Smart at multiple things, AAU at the time, and high school in the McDonald's All-American game. And Isaiah Thomas was an All-Star this year. You can see they're on the rise and close to something special. I'm gonna be anxious to see what they do next year."
