Durant Will Meet With Thunder Prior To NBA Free Agency
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Kevin Durant Free Agency Frenzy of 2016 will begin Thursday when the seven-time All Star will reportedly meet with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN.
After that, the five remaining teams on Durant's list, including the Boston Celtics, will meet with him in New York over the first few days of July. NBA free agency officially begins at midnight on July 1, but players cannot officially sign contracts until July 8.
When free agency does get underway on Friday, the Golden State Warriors will be the first team to make their pitch to Durant. The San Antonio Spurs will meet with this summer's biggest available name on Saturday, with the rest of Durant's meetings TBD.
In addition to Oklahoma City, Golden State, San Antonio and Boston, the Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat are on Durant's short list of teams he'll meet with. There's a chance the New York Knicks could join the mix, ESPN notes, but the L.A. Lakers are being shut out by Durant.
A Vegas sports book released the odds of where Durant will end up when all the dust settles, giving the Thunder the best chance at retaining the super star at 1/6. They have little faith the Celtics can convince Durant to sign with them, putting them sixth with 16/1 odds behind Golden State (4/1), Miami (12/1), New York (14/1) and San Antonio (16/1).
