Kevin Bacon Added To Cast Of Marathon Bombing Movie 'Patriots Day'

BOSTON (CBS) – Golden Globe winning actor Kevin Bacon has been added to the cast of "Patriots Day," a movie about the events surrounding the Boston Marathon bombings.

CBS Films and Lionsgate announced on Thursday that Bacon will play Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Richard DesLauriers.

"Richard DesLauriers worked tirelessly as one of the key figures in an impossibly sophisticated investigation and Kevin Bacon possesses the intelligence and empathy to portray him," Patriots Day director Peter Berg said.

Mark Wahlberg headlines the cast along with J.K. Simmons and John Goodman, who will play former Boston Police Commissioner and current WBZ-TV security analyst Ed Davis.

Filmmakers have been in Quincy this week shooting scenes for the movie.

On Thursday, Quincy Police shared several pictures from the set. Members of the department's SWAT team were asked to suit up for the filming.

A release date has been set for Dec. 21 for theaters in Boston, New York and Los Angeles, before a wider release on Jan. 13, 2017.

Patriots Day is being produced by WBZ's sister company CBS Films.
