Keller @ Large: Mass. GOP Chair Says Raising Taxes Ignores Voters' Will
BOSTON (CBS) -- The head of the state Republican party says the Massachusetts Senate is ignoring voters' wishes in its push to raise taxes.
GOP leader Kirsten Hughes told WBZ-TV political analyst Jon Keller that Bay Staters sent a message when they elected Charlie Baker as governor, and don't want to see their taxes go up.
"It's unfortunate that the Senate is not really adhering to the will of the voters," Hughes said. "I think what you'll see happen is hopefully they start to change their tune a little bit."
Hughes also stood behind Baker's efforts to reform the MBTA, even if there are proposed changes that unions don't like.
"The governor really needs every tool available in order to fix what we saw wreak havoc on our transportation system," she said. "What we've had for the past several years clearly hasn't worked."
Hughes also addressed Boston's bid for the 2024 Olympic games, and the Republican presidential field.
