Keller @ Large: Iconic Massachusetts-Rhode Island Pairings

BOSTON (CBS) - From Rhode Island comes a fascinating rumor – that two iconic regional brands, Narragansett Beer and Del's Lemonade, may be pooling their talents to create a "Rhody Shandy," 60-percent 'Gansett, 40-percent lemonade.

The two companies hadn't confirmed this yet when I saw it, but for those of us here in Massachusetts who like to think we're at least as insular as our semi-friendly neighbors to the south, this raises a question: what iconic Massachusetts pairings can we come up with?

Listen to Jon's commentary:

I'll get things rolling and invite you to play along.

Everett and Revere have to stop circling each other suspiciously like kids at a junior high school dance, and start twerking together. Have the casino at Suffolk, the hotel and showroom in Everett, and with the money saved by laying off all the lawyers right now, build a monorail to run customers back and forth.

Call it the "Mohegan Wynn Skyway Casino and Fun Palace."

In the Democratic race for governor, Steve Grossman and Martha Coakley should team up as a ticket, lest one of the outsiders catch on and slip through.

They should have a debate over who'll be number two on the ticket, put it on pay-per-view, all proceeds to the One Fund. I'll moderate.

And you know what?

Maybe it's time for Boston and Providence to forget old grudges and get together, maybe even merge to form the nation's largest metroplex.

To promote tourism, we'll call the new mega-city "Boston."

Just kidding, Rhode Islanders!

Grab a Rhody Shandy, and chill out.
