Keller @ Large: Go Vote, No Excuses!
BOSTON (CBS) - It's a beautiful day for voting, don't you think? And if you're among the 80-percent of us who didn't vote early, this is your last chance. But I know there are some of you who won't bother to go vote today, for a variety of reasons. Give me a moment, because I want to take some of those on.
Jon, I hear some of you thinking, I can't stand Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. And besides, my vote won't matter because the Democrat always wins Massachusetts.
I feel your pain.
But the Democrat doesn't always win here.
Ronald Reagan carried Massachusetts in 1980 and 1984. And a protest vote for one of the two minor parties on the ballot, the Greens and the Libertarians, would both send a message and potentially help those parties to stay viable in the future.
And besides - there are plenty of important choices to be made besides the presidency.
Five of the nine incumbent members of Congress have challengers.
Every state rep and senator is on the ballot too.
Shall all the incumbents be given a free pass without even a look-see from you?
Meanwhile, two of the four ballot questions address extremely important issues - school choice options for low-income citizens in Question Two and legalizing marijuana in Question Four.
Are you really ok with letting others decide those?
Gov. Charlie Baker is on the ballot, in a way, as a staunch supporter of "Yes on 2" and "No on 4." Have you no interest in sending a message to him?
The weather is fine, the issues are crucial, and if you don't put it off until after work you likely won't have a long wait.
So go vote. It's your privilege, and your obligation.
