Jury Selection For Philip Chism Murder Trial On Hold
SALEM (CBS) - Jury selection is still on hold in the Philip Chism murder trial.
The move comes while lawyers continue debating Chism's mental competency to stand trial.
On Wednesday, Chism refused to enter the courtroom, listening to proceedings from an adjacent, out-of-sight room. He is accused of the raping and killing his teacher, Colleen Ritzer, two years ago when he was a 14-year-old freshman at Danvers High School.
Psychologist Colleen McMillan took the stand and described a chilling 75-minute interview of Chism who says he hears voices.
"I asked him if he was talking to me. I didn't hear anything and he said he wasn't talking to me, but he was talking to somebody else," she says. "And when I asked who the somebody else was, he said 'He doesn't want me to tell you.'"
Prosecutors say Chism is faking it and trying to stall the trial. Both sides are due back in court on Thursday where Chism is being tried as an adult.
