Judge Releases Defense Documents Claiming Aaron Hernandez Juror 'Untruthful'
FALL RIVER (CBS/AP) -- A judge has partially unsealed documents relating to a juror that was seated in the murder trial of Ex-New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez.
GateHouse Media, LLC, filed a request to make public documents submitted by Hernandez's defense team that claim a juror knew details of the case outside of what was presented in the courtroom.
Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh, who oversaw the murder trial that led to Hernandez's conviction, ruled the juror's identity remain protected.
In redacted court documents released Monday, lawyer James Sultan says he spoke four times with an anonymous caller, starting the day after Hernandez was convicted April 15 of first-degree murder for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd in North Attleborough, Massachusetts.
Sultan says the caller told him the juror was present for a discussion about a Boston double murder case that Hernandez is also charged in. Mention of those killings was barred at trial. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty.
Sultan says the juror didn't disclose knowing about the Boston case.
He asked the judge to authorize a subpoena to trace the calls.
Hernandez was convicted of killing Odin Lloyd in 2013 and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
