Jones: Patriots Need To Prove They Can Win On The Road

BOSTON (CBS) - The Patriots are in the midst of a very tough stretch of games.

After burying the Bears and Broncos at home to improve to 7-2, the result of their next game Sunday night against Indianapolis could very well determine which team gets a first round bye in the postseason, and maybe even homefield advantage throughout.

Such an important game, in fact, that as a Patriots fan you wish it were being played at home. The lone two losses for the Patriots in 2014 have come on the road, but their struggles away from home stretch further back than just this season.

On Monday night, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones breaks down why the Patriots need to prove they can win a tough game on the road to cement their position as Super Bowl contenders.

"The last few years on the road have been disappointing for the Patriots," Jones said to start the discussion. "So far this season they're 2-2. A year ago they were below .500 on the road if you factor in that playoff game in Denver. Their only signature wins on the road the past year-and-a-half have been Buffalo this season and Baltimore last December."

We know the Patriots can win in Foxboro. Sunday night is a chance for them to prove they can beat a quality, playoff-bound opponent in their house.

"This is an opportunity for them to start changing that narrative," said Jones. "It's ironic, because if they can lock up these upcoming games on the road then they won't have to play away from home in the playoffs. It'd be nice to see them get some battle tested victories against quality competition on the road, and they can do that over the next month at Indianapolis, at Green Bay and at San Diego. That's the one thing really missing from their profile right now -- I mean, is there anything else?"

The Patriots travel to Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday night, where Andrew Luck is 16-4 in his career.
