Jones: Patriots Need To Let Revis Be Revis Against A.J. Green

BOSTON (CBS) - When Darrelle Revis played for the New York Jets for the first six years of his career, Rex Ryan frequently lined him up opposite the team's best wide receiver in press coverage, and that wideout knew he was in for a long day with no. 24 shadowing him all game.

The term "Revis Island" was coined, and Revis went on to earn three straight All Pro nominations from 2009-2011 for his ability to take away basically half the field.

In Tampa Bay under Greg Schiano, Revis played a lot of zone coverage and we didn't see as much of a "shutdown corner" because of how it was schemed, which Schiano was heavily criticized for -- especially in these parts.

Through four games here in New England, Revis is once again playing off-coverage, and scores of fans and media are calling for Bill Belichick to let him loose this Sunday against Bengals star A.J. Green.

98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones thinks it's a "no brainer" to play Revis on Green all game, but is not confident the team will utilize him that way.

"A.J. Green is the guy in Cincinnati. The Patriots face a lot of players like that this season. Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, even Jordy Nelson. There will be opportunities for Revis to go one-on-one, man-up against some of the best receivers in the league. This should be his first crack at it this Sunday," said Jones. "I would rather see Revis lose a couple matchups against an elite no. 1 receiver than for the Patriots to not line him up on Green."
