Jones: Belichick Will Not Let Revis Escape New England
BOSTON (CBS) - 98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones discussed his recent thoughts on the Darrelle Revis dilemma, but mainly talked about why he has a better feeling that Revis will be back in a Patriots uniform next season.
The Patriots have a decision to pick up Revis' $20 million option for 2015 ($25 million cap hit) or decline it. However, no credible reporter believes the Patriots will do the former.
If Revis were to leave New England, he would have plenty of suitors for his services, including AFC East rivals Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills and also Woody Johnson and the New York Jets. Due to the reported high interest of Revis from these teams, Jones points this out as a big reason why he believes Belichick will bring the All Pro corner back.
"I can't fathom that Bill would let Revis play somewhere else, and still be a top-flight corner because that reflects poorly on Bill," Jones said. "He doesn't want to get Revis wrong and have Revis end up in the division or have Revis play top-flight anywhere else in the league."
If there is one thing people may forget with Belichick, he knows when it's time to move on from players. Though Belichick has been burned on some cases, it only lasted for about a year. However, Belichick will handle this situation differently Jones believes.
"He has an excellent track record when it comes to personnel decisions. He's not going to blow this Revis decision," Jones added. "Revis will be back."
Revis wants to be back in New England and New England wants him back to chase another Super Bowl. Seeing how much of an impact Revis made on the defense this past season, Belichick should do whatever it takes to keep him in a Patriots uniform.
