Keller @ Large: AG Maura Healey On Gun Control

BOSTON (CBS) -- Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey says that the issue of gun control in America is, for her, a moral one.

"We've got a moral crisis on our hands in this country," Healey said. "Three million guns out there, more mass shootings than calendar days in 2015 alone, 43 toddlers killed last year at the hand of gun violence. We've got a real problem, and we need to act."

Healey sat down with WBZ political analyst Jon Keller to discuss gun laws in the wake of the recent San Bernadino shooting that killed 14 and wounded 21. The attorney general wants to see congress reinstate the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, close loopholes that allow those on the no-fly list to buy guns, and ensure better communication between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Healey blamed Congress for the lack of change in the nation's gun laws.

"I do believe that as a state we are handcuffed right now by the utter inaction out of Congress and Washington," Healey said. "People need to step up and demand that their politicians in Washington act."

Keller and Healey also spoke about ensuring the protection of civil liberties while keeping the nation safe from terror.
