Crowds Gather In Boston Streets After News Of Joe Biden Presidential Win

BOSTON (CBS) -- Crowds gathered across Boston Saturday to celebrate Joe Biden's presidential win.

What started as a Protect The Vote rally in Copley Square turned into a celebration when the news broke.

"I feel like it's a celebration right now," one woman participating in the march said.

Another added, "It's such a sigh of relief to be outside with everybody and just feel so free after four years of a lot of darkness. I hope that our generation will get more involved in politics and demand change from our leaders. I think the past four years, a lot of people have come out and given in to cynicism,  I'm hopeful for our generation."

The rally went all the way to Faneuil Hall.

"It's a great relief," said Ben Thompson, who was involved in the march. "We got a lot of work to do, but I think we can do it."

There were many other marches across the area.

People converged at Harvard Square in Cambridge and Davis Square in Somerville to celebrate the win for Biden.

In Cambridge, people were popping champagne corks, as they cheered the Biden victory.

"We are all done with the fascist dictatorship of Donald Trump," one woman said.

Supporters around the Boston Public Garden were chanting "Yes We Can!"

Supporters of both Biden and President Donald Trump showed up at the Statehouse in Boston. On one side, Trump supporters waved flags and signs, insisting that the campaign wasn't over just yet. But just across Beacon Street, the equally-vocal group of Biden supporters were celebrating the election results.

Later into the night, a large crowd showed up and waving American flags near the Boston Public Garden.

At Nubian Square on Saturday night, anti-Trump rallies were still going strong, a sign that activism will continue after the election, too.

"There are still millions of people who have been affected by coronavirus. Hundreds of thousands of people that have died," one woman said.
