Jay Talking Travel: Portugal Episode Four - Monchique
Monchique is a town nestled in a forested mountain range at the edge of the Algarve region. It is famous for a strong liqueur made from the "strawberry" tree. You can get a great place to stay here cheap, and I love that. The views on the way up to the village are remarkable. My memories of the town include a dark market that kept the lights off to save electricity, the nearly deserted town square, the pension with brambly gardens, and an actual warming stone placed in the bed by the proprietor. I remember watching videos and drinking beer by the fireplace in the common area till I was super sleepy.
