Immigrant Activists Arrested For Blocking Entrance To Suffolk County Jail

BOSTON (CBS) – Nearly two dozen protesters were arrested outside the Suffolk County Detention Center on Thursday after they formed a human chain blocking the front door to the facility.

SWAT teams carried the activists away from the front door of the jail and placed them into the back of Suffolk County Sheriff vans. In addition to those arrested, several dozen activists protested on the other side of a police line formed in front of the building.

The activists are part of a national movement that is hoping to send a message to President Obama. They are calling for an end to the deportation of undocumented workers.

Nearly two million people have been deported under the current White House administration, a large increase from previous administrations.

Inmates inside the jail have been staging a hunger strike since October.
