Rollover on I-93 causes significant traffic, Red Line delays

Major traffic backups after truck rollover in Dorchester

DORCHESTER - A truck rollover on I-93 South forced train service to shut down on part of the Red Line and caused major traffic backups Thursday afternoon.

Four vehicles were involved in the crash and minor injuries were reported.

The tractor-trailer truck damaged part of the fence on the highway, which Transit Police say "caused interference" for Red Line trains.

Shuttle buses were replacing trains between JFK/UMass and North Quincy stations before service was resumed at about 3 p.m.

Riders were told to expect delays of about 20 minutes.

The crash also backed up traffic for miles on I-93 as crews worked to clear the scene. At one point the three right lanes were closed. By 4:45 p.m., all lanes were reopened.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
