Police Seeking Man They Say Attacked Woman, Mother With Knife In Hyde Park Home Invasion

HYDE PARK (CBS) -- Boston Police are searching for a man Wednesday who they say broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and attacked her and her mother with a knife Tuesday night.

Police said they responded to a report of an assault and battery at a home on Huntington Avenue around 10:25 p.m. Tuesday.

They said 22-year-old Jeffrey LaBathe of Hyde Park sliced his ex-girlfriend and her mother in the face, and also stabbed the younger woman in the neck and chest. Police are searching for him.

According to the police report, five windows in the home were smashed, and one window pane had blood on it. A car outside also had its windshield smashed.

The women inside told police the man broke in and tried to kill them. Police said both women were bleeding heavily when they arrived.

They said the attacks may have started with a dispute over a laptop computer.

Neighbors told WBZ-TV's Beth Germano they are shaken by the violence.

"All I heard was the glass crashing, I've heard the screaming, and then I just heard the kind of frantic commotion downstairs," neighbor Eaton McLaren said.

"I'm just happy that something worse didn't happen," Vanessa, another neighbor, said. "He didn't have a gun or something like that."

Another neighbor who did not want to be identified said the attacks made her nervous.

"As soon as I heard I got inside the house and locked all the doors and windows."

The women are now recovering as police seek LaBathe, who police say will be charged with armed assault with intent to murder.
