Hyde Park Woman Beaten, Robbed, And Dumped In Cemetery

HYDE PARK (CBS) -- It was a terrifying wake-up for the 59-year-old resident of a Beaver Street home in Hyde Park. She says four armed men broke in through a window and held her at gunpoint.

She says they robbed her and ransacked the house. The woman says they put her into her own car and made her drive to an ATM.

Boston Police described the four men as black, possibly Hispanic or Cape Verdean.

There she says they threatened her and forced her to withdraw money. After they forced her to take out money, they dumped her by the road at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mattapan.

It's this woman, Karen Seck, who came to the woman's rescue. Seck says she was on her way to the gym when she saw the woman trying flag down cars. No one was stopping, and Seck says she was glad she stopped.

"I was lucky enough to stop. She was frantic. She was like, very very very traumatized and upset. But after speaking to me a little bit and telling me her story, I think it calmed her down a little bit," Seck said.

Seck found the woman by the cemetery, trying to flag down cars in the middle of Harvard Road. She says the woman's face was swollen and that the victim told Seck that they pistol-whipped her.

"The whole right side of her face was swollen, not bleeding, but very swollen," Seck also said.

The woman told Seck that they pointed a gun at her while she was trying to withdraw the money.

"She was only able to get 400 dollars. They were like we need more than that you need to try to get more, it all failed," Seck said.

WBZ-TV's Beth Germano reported that the assailants were angry that the woman could only withdraw $400, and that's when the victim reported that they hit her with the gun.

Detectives spent the day gathering evidence at the scene, and the victim's brother is outraged by the incident.

"The damage is done, but time will tell if they pay for what they did," the brother said.

The woman was taken to Faulkner Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The horrifying scenario was a wake-up call for the neighbors. Resident Rosedolphe Ambroise says she is going to be more diligent.

"You just gotta watch, lock your doors. It happens. I wish they didn't kidnap her or do anything bad,"

The victim's brother is grateful to the Good Samaritan who found her.

"I appreciate her. May God bless her," the brother said.

Police have recovered the victim's car, a blue 2012 KIA Soul with Massachusetts plates reading "3VH745." They're still looking for the Honda and the four suspects. They said there was smoke coming from the Honda. They are asking the public to contact them with any information.
