Hundreds Of Children Find Forever Families On National Adoption Day
BOSTON (CBS) – Hundreds of children across the state were granted "forever families" Friday, completing the adoption process for parents just in time for National Adoption Day.
The children were formally in the state's foster care.
Five courtrooms across the state were packed with families celebrating their legalized adoptions.
"We hope that this worthwhile event encourages more parents to consider adopting kids who are in foster care," Trial Court Chief Justice Paula M. Carey said at Brooke Courthouse in Boston.
Boston's City Councilor Tito Jackson, who was also adopted when he was 2-months-old, spoke about the compassion of his adoptive parents.
"They brought me into their home and treated me just like everybody else," Jackson said.
Kim Serrano of Leominster officially adopted 5-year-old Kenny Jones.
"Today is a big event for us because it means he's officially with us and he is part of our forever family," Serrano told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope. "That's very important to us."
