Human Bones Found On Plum Island Beach Identified As Man

NEWBURY, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say the human bones found on a Plum Island beach last weekend were those of an adult male.

A man walking his dog on the Newbury portion of the beach uncovered a human bone, which led to the discovery of several others.

Bill Barrett was walking his chocolate Labrador retriever Saturday morning when the puppy found the bone. Barrett says it appeared to be a human leg bone, and it was still covered with a sock.

Investigators with cadaver dogs later found several more bones. Police on Sunday confirmed the bones are human.

Essex district attorney spokeswoman Carrie Kimball-Monahan said Monday that the medical examiner determined that the bones are of an adult male, but had no additional information.

The case remains under investigation.
