Holden Family In Good Spirits After Storm Cuts Cruise Short
HOLDEN (CBS) - A family from Holden returned Thursday after a storm cut their cruise short.
The Wiggins were on Royal Caribbean's "Anthem of the Seas." It was their ninth cruise, but their first one as a family as three. Amy and David were joined by their 9-month-old daughter Sophia.
In a few hours, the Bahamas-bound cruise became memorable, not for the reasons they hoped.
"This is like the Titanic; It's a brand new ship. What are we going to do," said Amy. "Oh my goodness. I hope there's a baby life jacket!"
"Started getting rougher and rougher. The planters started falling over and like Amy said, the water was rushing the doors," said David.
They stayed in their 11th floor stateroom that quickly resembled a puddle.
"It was that crazy that you had to hang onto the wall, hang onto the bed, hang onto each other," said Amy. "We're not big church people. I was like we need to pray. I was definitely scared."
They were able to check out the damage Monday when the seas quieted down. There were broken windows and damage to the ship.
The couple remains in good spirits.
"She (Sophia) actually slept through the entire thing," said Amy.
They are already planning their next family cruise, but one that's less of an adventure.
"As scary as it was he (Captain) did his job and they got us back safely," said Amy.
The ship returned to New Jersey Wednesday night.
Royal Caribbean offered refunds to passengers and discounts on another trip. The Wiggins have already booked a trip on the same ship next year.
