Holbrook Gas Stations Locked In Price War
HOLBROOK (CBS) – In the quiet town of Holbrook, there's a war going on.
It's a gas war between Sal's and EJ gas stations on South Franklin Street.
"He's $3.07, I'm $3.06. I mean if he goes to $2.99 I'll be $2.97," Sal's owner Sal Succar said. "Sometimes I lose a little bit of money here and there you know."
"He always goes down whenever we go down," EJ Gas owner Candy Boynton says. "He always goes below us. It is what it is."
Sal says he can afford the prices for now and supplements his income by the money he makes from repairs and inspections.
"I made the decision myself to be the lowest in the area," Sal said.

Both have been lowering their prices for weeks penny by penny to try and beat the other and both sides are well below the national average of $3.34.
The competition is paying off for customers.
"I love it, I love it, I love it," OC Brathwaite said. "I drive all the way from Boston to come up here."
Both places are cash only. Sal says he goes through about 8,000 gallons a day and the line sometimes extends onto the main street.
Both say they will keep the gas war going as long as they can afford it.
