Mayor Walsh Declares Boston Heat Emergency
BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston's looking at temperatures in the 90s and above for the next few days.
As a result, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has declared a heat emergency, which will be in effect from Thursday through Saturday.
Walsh says all of the Boston Centers for Youth and Families facilities will serve as cooling centers for the next few days, and is urging anyone who needs a break from the heat or doesn't have air conditioners to stop by to cool off.
"They're in every neighborhood," Walsh said on Nightside with Dan Rea. "A lot of people don't have air conditioning in their homes, and they're really going to need places throughout the day to cool off."
The mayor is also asking residents to look in on anyone who might be susceptible to the heat.
"Just to check on elderly neighbors or people that might be in homes, similar to what we do in the wintertime," Walsh said. "Three days of heat like that can certainly take a toll on peoples' bodies. Make sure you drink plenty of water, make sure you hydrate."
This summer, Boston has already experienced nearly two weeks of temperatures at or above 90 degrees.
