BOSTON (CBS) -- Actor Jake Gyllenhaal is likely to play Jeff Bauman in Lionsgate's "Stronger" about the Boston Marathon bombing survivor who lost both of his legs in the explosions, according to Variety.

After executives met with several notable actors, Gyllenhaal is now the favorite to play the role, and a formal offer may be coming soon, sources told Variety.
The film, which will be directed by David Gordon Green, is based on the 2014 book penned by Bret Witter and Bauman.
It will focus on Bauman's rehabilitation efforts, and also how the incident has changed his outlook on life.
Bauman was near the finish line when the bombs went off during the 2013 attack, which resulted in the deaths of three and injured more than 250.
Lionsgate has not commented on who will play Bauman in the film.
"Stronger" isn't the only Boston Marathon bombing-related film in the works, as CBS Films' "Patriot's Day", featuring Mark Wahlberg, and Fox's "Boston Strong" are also in development, Variety reports.
