Groveland Police Investigate Report That Officer Was Asleep At Intersection

GROVELAND (CBS) - A Groveland reserve police officer is on administrative leave as the department investigates a report that he was asleep behind the wheel of a cruiser on Thursday morning.

A viewer sent the WBZ I-Team video of the cruiser at a stop sign with a car beside it and a woman who appears to be on the phone. It later pans to show a truck waiting behind the stopped cruiser which does not have any lights on or sirens on.

Police also received a photo along with the video of the alleged incident.

Police say the reserve officer has been with the department since 2015.

A spokesperson says that reserve officers carry the same authority as full time officers.

The deputy police chief says they are taking the incident seriously but are limited to what they can release because it is a personnel matter.
