Gresh & Zo: Should The Patriots Play Vanilla Against Green Bay?
BOSTON (CBS) - The Patriots are 9-2 and possess the best record in the AFC, and on Sunday they go up against the NFC North-leading Green Bay Packers on the road.
It's a highly anticipated matchup, as two of the game's best quarterbacks square off in their first ever meeting as starters.
But how important is this game really for the Patriots?
It's a non-conference, non-division game, and this is a contest New England could certainly afford to lose given their standing in the conference.
And if this really is a Super Bowl preview like many are saying, should the Patriots be tipping their hands?
98.5 The Sports Hub's Andy Gresh can't help but wonder.
"Maybe, just maybe, hold a little bit back defensively, knowing that down the road there could be a bigger matchup where you would go against the Green Bay Packers," said Gresh, who later clarified, "But I'm not saying you just keep it so vanilla that it keeps you from winning the game."
Gresh thinks the Patriots secondary is good enough where they don't have to show their entire poker hand, and he'd rather not dig deep into the playbook for a game that doesn't affect their playoff situation whatsoever.
Perhaps no two squads in football are playing as well as these teams right now, so Scott Zolak just wants to see the Patriots exit Lambeau with a W.
"You got a chance to bury their ass in their altar of football," Zo argued. "It's either you or them. Who's playing at the best level right now? And you're going to their house, so when you get a chance to thump them you try and thump them."
The Patriots go for their eighth straight win Sunday afternoon, and you can hear the call of the game right here on 98.5 The Sports Hub – the flagship station of the New England Patriots and the Patriots Radio Network. Pregame coverage begins on 98.5FM at 1:30pm on Sunday.
