Great White Shark Jumps Out Of Water Chasing Seal Off Cape
CHATHAM (CBS) - There have been plenty of shark sightings off the Massachusetts coast this summer, but none quite like this.
Dr. Greg Skomal of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries was working with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy off Monomoy, Cape Cod Monday when a great white shark jumped out of the water trying to grab a seal.
It appears the seal escaped.
Skomal, the state's shark expert, captured it all on video.
He said they tagged two more great whites in that area Monday.
Both were about twelve feet long.
Seven sharks have now been tagged this summer.
Curious visitors have been flocking to Cape Cod. Some told WBZ-TV's Bill Shields that they're hoping to see a fin - from the safety of the sand.
Wendy Northcross of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce said the sharks may be good for business in the area.
"The sharks are a fact of life on Cape Cod. So far they've generate more business than they've chased away," said Northcross.
