Fruit Sold In R.I. Recalled Due To Possible Listeria Contamination
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Several kinds of fresh fruit are being recalled in Rhode Island due to possible contamination by Listeria monocytogenes.
The state health department says California-based Wawona Packing Co. issued the recall for certain kinds of whole peaches, nectarines, plums and pluots.
They were packed between June 1 and July 12 and sold in Rhode Island at Sam's Club, BJ's, Trader Joe's, Stop and Shop, Whole Foods, Save-A-Lot and possibly other places.
No illnesses have been reported.
People who think they have some of the recalled fruit are advised to throw it away.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious illness. It can be fatal to young children or frail or elderly people, and can cause miscarriages.
