Friends Of Boston Marathon Bombing Suspect Allowed To Wear Own Clothes In Court
BOSTON (CBS) --Friends of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev have claimed a small victory.
Dias Kadyrbayev and Azamat Tazhayakov face obstruction of justice charges for allegedly helping suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev hide evidence after the bombing.
The friends attended UMass Dartmouth with Tsarnaev.
Prosecutors say they removed a laptop and backpack containing fireworks from Tsarnaev's dorm room three days after the marathon bombings. A third friend, Robel Phillipos, is under house arrest, charged with lying to investigators.
On Saturday, U.S. District Judge Douglas Woodlock ruled Kadyrbayev and Tazhayakov can change out of orange prison jump suits and into civilian clothes before jury selection and other hearings for their trial. Lawyers for the friends must give the clothing to U.S. marshals ahead of time and cause no disruption to the proceedings.
Kadyrbayev, Tazhayakov and Phillipos are expected to appear in court for a hearing, Tuesday.
