Abandoned septic tank causes crane to fall onto Franklin home
FRANKLIN - A crane being used by a tree company smashed into a house in Franklin Wednesday because of an abandoned septic tank. The homeowners said they had no idea there was an old tank under their lawn.
The crane sank into the ground, causing it to tip over onto the house on Michelle's Way.
The homeowner and her son watched it all happen from the front porch.
"The crane came towards us, and the boom smashed the house so we heard crashing I ran inside the house because my daughter was still upstairs, so I ran to her, ran and screamed to get out of the house," Joan McCarthy said.
The family is going to stay in a hotel until the town building inspector says its safe for them to return home.
