State To Hold Training On Identifying Youth Firesetters
HADLEY, Mass. (AP) — Firefighters, prosecutors, police and mental health providers in Massachusetts are meeting for a training session on how to identify, intervene and respond to youth firesetters.
The training will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Hadley Farms Meeting House.
The U.S. Fire Administration says youths under the age of 18 start more than half of the intentionally set fires nationwide.
Subjects to be covered include the typology of a youth firesetter, interviewing techniques, case studies and legal considerations.
Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan and State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey will give opening remarks.
The training is sponsored by Sullivan's office, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and the Northwestern Youth Fire Intervention, Response, Education and Safety Partnership.
