Over Half A Billion Dollars' Worth Of Drugs Found In Storage Facility
NORTHBOROUGH (CBS) – Storage units at a facility in Northboro are home for a variety of items, likely furniture, antiques, or odd trinkets – and the unlikely 50 kilograms of a fentanyl chemical, according to police.
Officials announced Friday over half a billion dollars' worth of a drug used to make fentanyl was taken from a storage facility on May 25 by federal agents, and Worcester, Northborough, and Westborough police.
The substance, believed to be specifically N-Phenethyl-4-piperidinone (NPP), could have amounted to 19 million fentanyl pills with a street value of over $570 million.
Fentanyl is an opioid 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine.
This has been the largest seizure of its kind in New England in recent years, officials said they believed.
