Felger & Mazz: 'Something's Not Right' Internally With The Patriots
BOSTON (CBS) - Hard to believe that just over eight months ago the Patriots were playing in the AFC Championship Game, one game away from the Super Bowl.
The 2-2 Patriots are in disarray, but how did they get here? Who do you blame?
Do you blame the offensive line? The quarterback? The head coach? Management?
98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger & Massarotti say "all the above."
"I just think this is a classic case of cutting too many corners too frequently, and eventually you end up with a situation like the one you're in now without a line on either side of the ball," said Tony Mazz. "That blows my mind how that could happen. You've got to be good on the line. They are the building blocks of the team."
Aside from the onfield stuff, something just doesn't smell right with this team in Mike Felger's opinion.
"Don't you just feel like there's something wrong? There's something wrong. It feels like there's something wrong on the team. Between the players and themselves, the players and the coach, the quarterback feels like he's prominent in this -- and this all ties in to the commentary we got last night on ESPN," said Felger.
If you missed it on last night's Monday Night Football broadcast, ESPN analysts Steve Young and Trent Dilfer were very critical of the Patriots' management, and their inability, or refusal, to surround Tom Brady with a Super Bowl contending team.
Young and Dilfer said very damning things about Belichick and also the Krafts for not ponying up the dough, and Felger & Mazz can't help but wonder if this commentary from two former quarterbacks is coming from somewhere.
"That commentary from Dilfer and Young -- the quarterback union -- I don't think it was from off the top of their head or out of their ass. I feel like it came from Brady or Brady's camp," said Felger. "I just think something is wrong. I don't want to get into a big body language exercise, but just gauge it from what you see between the whistles. The team is not playing together, they're not playing hard, they're not playing with their usual intelligence -- there's something wrong with that team."
