Felger & Mazz: Patriots-Lions 3 Up 3 Down
BOSTON (CBS) - The Patriots defeated the Lions on Sunday by the final score of 34-9 en route to their seventh straight win.
On Tuesday, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Mike Felger moderated a segment in which The MMQB's Greg Bedard and Tony Massarotti give their three best and three worst Patriots players from the game.
Greg Bedard has looked at the tape, he's analyzed it, and on Tuesday afternoon he shared his findings.
Bedard's 3 Up
1. Darrelle Revis
"I haven't graded a better game from a cornerback in my career. He was terrific. I had him for seven-plus plays, which is unheard of for a cornerback because they're usually not in the mix that much."
2. Dont'a Hightower
"Another terrific game against the run and the pass. He looks so much faster to me. He's been just dynamite ever since Jerod Mayo went out. He should not only be in the Pro Bowl consideration, but All Pro consideration as well for middle linebacker."
3. Nate Solder
"He played well. He had a tough matchup against Ziggy Ansah, who is one of the up-and-coming defensive ends in the game. And yeah they got rid of the ball quickly, but he also did great in the running game as well. Nate has really come on."
Bedard's 3 Down
1. Dan Connolly
"He had four total quarterback pressures, which isn't a ton. But in a game where Tom Brady is getting rid of the ball fast he struggled. He had a tough matchup with Ndamukong Suh."
2. Ryan Wendell
"He had three total quarterback pressures and struggled in pass protection and in the running game."
3. Chris Jones
"He really got washed out in the running game. He was a weak point. Hopefully the Patriots continue to give more snaps to Alan Branch."
Tony Massarotti also participated in the exercise, although his methods of analysis — and even he would admit — are not as scientific or extensive as Bedard's.
Mazz's 3 Up
1. Darrelle Revis
"He was clearly the best player on the field on Sunday either side of the ball, and it really wasn't even that close."
2. Brandon Browner
"I just thought it was going to be a mismatch against Calvin Johnson, but he played great. I thought the secondary in this game was awesome."
3. Patrick Chung
"He was running all over the field and doing all of the things he was capable of doing. The last month he's been terrific."
Mazz's 3 Down
1. Shane Vereen
"I was expecting so much more from him in this game and he wasn't very good. I didn't think he was great."
2. Rob Gronkowski
"Ten catches on five targets. He dropped a ball. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't great."
3. Julian Edelman
"Overall he was good, but he had a drop in there and one was in the end zone. Bugged the crap out of me. I hate that. I admit I'm nitpicking but I expect more from that guy."
