Felger & Mazz: Bruins Are On The Verge Of Another Collapse
BOSTON (CBS) -- It's Deja vu for Bruins fans.
The team has lost four straight after falling to the New York Rangers, 5-2, on Wednesday night and are in jeopardy of falling out of the postseason picture with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. They currently sit as one of the Top 3 teams in the Atlantic, but face a must-win situation Thursday night when they host the Florida Panthers.
This is just like last season, when Boston had a playoff spot in their grasps before a March skid ultimately left them on the outside looking in. It's left Felger and Mazz to wonder if history is repeating itself for Claude Julien and his team.
"Absolutely they're crumbling," Tony Massarotti said to start Thursday's show. "It feels like they're on the verge of a collapse. I know Claude Julien said yesterday it doesn't feel like they're caving in; to me it now feels like they're starting to collapse."
"This team can't bow out of the playoffs for the second straight year after being in it in March," said Felger. "It can't happen, and if it does, there will be big changes."
Mazz thinks even if the team does make the postseason, they likely won't go very far if they don't fix a fatal flaw.
"If their defense in front of their own goal is like it has been all year long, they're going nowhere," he said. "They'll get bounced in the first round."
