Felger: Julien, Chiarelli Had A Good Run - But Time's Up
BOSTON (CBS) - When the Bruins were floundering at the start of the 2014-15 season and through the end of December, Charlie Jacobs -- son of owner Jeremy Jacobs and newly appointed CEO of Delaware North's Boston Holdings -- made it his first order of business to put his team on notice.
The Bruins were 19-15-6 at the time and were on the outside of the playoff picture when Jacobs told the assembled media it would be "unacceptable" to miss the postseason given all they've invested in the team.
Now there's just one game left for the B's and they need several miracles just to keep playing.
"We can sit here and rant and rave about how [general manager] Peter Chiarelli and [head coach] Claude Julien should lose their jobs, and they should, but I feel like I've been doing that for about five years. I've stated my case on those guys for weeks, months and years. You guys know how I feel about that," 98.5 The Sports Hub's Michael Felger said to start the show Friday afternoon.
"It's time to move on. I feel that as strongly as ever and I think most people agree with it at this juncture. It's over. I think Julien and Chiarelli are fired by next Friday at the latest."
As a tandem, Peter Chiarelli and Claude Julien have accomplished some great things for the organization, most notably a Stanley Cup win and another Cup Finals appearance.
It was a nice run, and let's not forget that, but Felger says it's over for them.
"They did a good job. They did. They're decent at their jobs. I think Claude is better at his job than Peter is at his, but they're both pretty good. They'll get jobs and they'll go somewhere else and they might even have success somewhere else -- they certainly had success here.
"I think people forget when they took over this thing here [in Boston] was a debacle. The Bruins were absolutely lost when Claude Julien took over, but he righted the ship, won a Cup and almost won another one. He deserves a lot of credit. He had a good run here, and so did Chiarelli. They had a good run. But it's over. It was a terrific run."
