FedEx Customers Furious As Deliveries Fail To Arrive By Christmas

BOSTON (CBS) -- FedEx stores around the country are open on Christmas as the shipping company tries to make up for the fact that it couldn't make all of its scheduled deliveries in time for the holiday.

A few unhappy customers spent part of their Christmas morning at the local FedEx in South Boston, wanting to know where their packages were.

Some were lucky enough to walk out with boxes in tow, others left empty-handed.

One Boston man told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 that his gifts were supposed to be in Christmas Eve, but never showed up.

"They obviously have a lot of stuff on their plate right now," he said. "I'm happy I can just come by and pick it up."

But a look at the shipping company's Facebook page show that some customers are not as forgiving.

"Sorry, #FedEX, but you just Scrooged my holiday delivery to my family," wrote Jill Kalish, who was supposed to get her packages on Tuesday. "I get that you're 'busy', but Christmas week is when you would anticipate being busy, no?"

"Thanks FEDEX for ruining Christmas," Chris Pittarelli wrote.

FedEx is responding to customers to offer tracking assistance. It blames this week's severe weather for the delays, and says heavier-than-planned last minute shipment volumes didn't help.

The company says some of its employees actually volunteered to work on Christmas….to try and get it all sorted out.
