FBI Digging For Remains Of Boston Nightclub Owner In Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI (CBS) - The FBI is digging behind an old Providence mill for the remains of a Boston nightclub operator with ties to the mob, sources tell CBS Providence affiliate WPRI.

On Wednesday, a large excavator and tarps could be seen on the property of the mill on Branch Avenue. The medical examiner was also on the scene.

WPRI reports federal investigators are searching for the remains of Steven DiSarro, 43, of Westwood, Mass. DiSarro was murdered in 1993 but his body was never recovered.

No one has ever been charged with DiSarro's murder but former New England mob boss Francis "Cadillac Frank" Salemme was indicted in 2004 for making false statements related to what he knew about DiSarro's death.

According to a 2004 DEA press release, Salemme and his son had a hidden interest in "The Channel", a South Boston nightclub run by DiSarro. The release goes on to state that, "On or about May 10, 1993, the defendant FRANCIS P. SALEMME was present at the scene of Stephen DiSarro's murder," and "also assisted in burying Stephen DiSarro's body to prevent its discovery."

The FBI had no comment on their activities, only stating that there is no danger to the public.

Back in August, Federal investigators raided the mill property and arrested the complex's owner, William Ricci, for an illegal marijuana growing operation. There is no indication that Ricci's case is related to the FBI dig.
