Woman Injured By Foul Ball At Fenway Park

BOSTON (CBS) – A woman was taken to the hospital after she was hit in the head by a foul ball at Fenway Park Friday night.

The woman was sitting on the third base side when she was hit during the fifth inning of the Red Sox-Yankees game.

WBZ-TV's David Robichaud was sitting near the fan who was hit. He says she was bleeding and holding an ice pack on her head when she was taken out of the park in a wheelchair.

Red Sox management says she was conscious and alert when she was taken to Beth Israel Hospital.

"You see a foul ball go into the seats like that, your thoughts are with her and her family," Red Sox manager John Farrell said after the game. "Our thoughts are with her for sure. Her and her family."

In June, a fan suffered life threatening injuries when she was hit by a broken bat at Fenway. Tonya Carpenter was also sitting on the third base side when she was struck on June 5. She was hospitalized for several days.
