Fan Drops Gift-Wrapped Pedroia Home Run Ball Back Onto Fenway Field [VIDEO]

BOSTON (CBS) -- Ever had a baseball hit directly at you at a Red Sox game? Odds are you have not, because it's a once-in-a-lifetime kind of opportunity that may never sneak up on you. If you get it, you'd better not botch it. This fan in the first row of the Green Monster seats did just that Wednesday night when Dustin Pedroia smacked a home run ball directly into his hands.

Watch closely for the guy's reaction. You can feel his intense embarrassment from the ignominious blunder. His bobble was so visible that NESN even sent Gary Striewski up to interview him. It's rare to see a fan gaffe take center stage like it did with Matt from Rhode Island here.

He hopes to get another chance to make the play. But he probably won't get it, because that kind of lightning rarely strikes twice. After watching him glumly hold his hands out in Pedroia's next at-bats, practically begging him for another shot, it may take a while to wash the shame way.
