Family, Friends Keep Corey Griffin's Legacy Of Giving Alive

BOSTON (CBS) - Friends and family say Corey Griffin was a force of nature. "He lived every minute he had with an explosion, he was an burst of energy," Corey's mom Cathy Griffin said.

Even as a young kid Corey's priorities were always about helping others. "He would see these sick kids and say dad you got to do something for this family. He was just that way," Corey's dad Rob Griffin said.

Corey died last year after diving off the top of a Nantucket building and into the harbor. Even then he'd just got done raising $100k for ALS research in honor of his dear friend Pete Frates.

"It's just fitting that he went out doing what he was so passionate about so it's important to keep that legacy alive," Corey's best friend Tom Greeley said.

Now friends and family have created the Corey C. Griffin Foundation. It kicks off this Friday at a launch party called the CoreyFest. The purpose of the foundation is to support Catholic Charities and helping sick kids at Boston Children's Hospital.

The foundation has also established a home called Corey's Place. "We will put up children who are sick and families who can't afford it extended period of time," Rob Griffin said.

The support for CoreyFest has been outstanding. The goal is raise awareness and funds. "I know he is so proud and smiling down," Corey's sister Casey said.
